LETTER TO CONGRESSMAN SIMPSON
March 19, 2025

Dear Congressman Simpson,

Thank you, I know you receive hundreds and thousands of letters. I really hope that this message gets to you, because it is urgent.

I don’t think there are many Americans who weren’t and aren’t still concerned about the open borders during the previous administration. Also, I think most reasonable citizens support sensible immigration, which is what our country was founded upon. My ancestors immigrated to this country and worked hard to establish lives here.

What we’re seeing now however is that this administration has gone to the other extreme. The political statements lauding the mass deportion of “illegals” reassured the public that ICE would be targeting and deporting gang members, and those who committed crimes (“criminals”) while in our country. In order to cover every angle, however, concerning statements from the administration were also being released that anyone in this country illegally was a criminal, meaning ALL OF THEM. That is too broad of a stroke, especially when thousands were lured here by the promise that they would get in and be “paroled” through the CPB Home app and other government established systems the literally invited masses of people to come here.  The “word on the street” was that the gates were open. That was the message being put out there by our government. Now our government wants to send them ALL back. Where is the compassion? Where is the perspective? Where is the common sense in that approach?

Yes, I’m sure bona fide gang members and those who have committed crimes in this country are being targeted for expulsion, but I am deeply concerned about the arbitrary targeting of anyone for example with hispanic or other racially non-white appearance, along with tattoos and other physical characteristics as being associated with gangs and rounded up inhumanely, shackled and exported on planes with questionable discretion – and no due process.

By the way, glorifying this with videos is in poor taste and bad judgement at best, inhuman at worst.

I am asking in behalf of myself and other ethical citizens that we treat our fellow man as we would prefer to be treated ourselves, as being created equal by their creator. I’m asking for discrete and careful prudence instead of our fellow man being treated as chattle, rounded up and shipped out, or put into prisons. We are trusting our government to govern with humanity, not inhumanity. We need sensible immigration, obviously,  but we need to be real with the current situation and accept responsibility for what our country has allowed. We caused the problem, meaning our government. It is unconscionable that we repair it by casting off the “huddled masses” as if they were human trash. They are not. They are human beings.

This country was founded upon Christian principles. The Good Samaritan was taught as a parable by Jesus Christ regarding people who are not like us (not American Citizens in this case) in answer to “Who is my brother”? These immigrants are our brothers and sisters. We MUST rise to the occasion and govern with compassion. Please make our voices known. These are not just conservative values. They are the values of humanity. We can do better than this.

Thank you for doing what you can. With the many priorities that come with your position, please prioritize this situation which is causing great suffering.

Sincerely,
John Roberts
