Is it worth it?
Your logo, is your face, your brand. It is the mark by which the world will judge you. That judgement may not be a critique, but it will certainly be a component of a decision. To buy or not to buy. To believe or not believe. The logo is persuasion. The logo builds confidence, comfort, excitement, stability, fun, etc. Does it matter? Is it worth hiring a professional? Logos or branding of some well established corporations are valued at millions of dollars because just seeing the logo establishes trust, and opens the doors of commerce.
Yes it is worth the trouble and the cost.
